Let's brew this! ODA brands new brews for Costa

Cos­ta opens new brew tri­al at Shel­ton Street Covent Gar­den with brand­ing and design by Our Design Agency.

The store which opened its doors on 27 June will be the first time the Nation’s Favourite Cof­fee Shop has offered new brews includ­ing three slow drip (v60) sin­gle ori­gin cof­fees, Cold Brew and a range of loose leaf teas.

It was a col­lab­o­ra­tive project; con­sul­tan­cy Edge com­plet­ed the inte­ri­ors for the new store, while Our Design Agency has cre­at­ed the brand­ing, includ­ing win­dow dis­play, wall art, new menu boards, pack­ag­ing, and print collateral.

Let’s Brew This!” is the cam­paign call to action cre­at­ed by Our Design Agency to encour­age the tri­al of new brews in Costa’s sig­na­ture fun, unpre­ten­tious tone. The agency set out to draw cof­fee lovers into the new store expe­ri­ence, from an eye-catch­ing V60 dis­play in the win­dow, to the cre­ation of new wall art such as The Brew Low­down a sig­na­ture piece of wall art intro­duc­ing peo­ple to the dif­fer­ent brew meth­ods on offer in store. The desire to make cof­fee dis­cov­ery easy informed the design of the icon­ic new menu board sys­tem, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Edge. The new menu boards include serv­ing sug­ges­tions and sim­ple iconog­ra­phy to aid visu­al nav­i­ga­tion. The agency was also keen to anchor the new brew sto­ries in the orig­i­nal sto­ry of Costa’s famous orig­i­nal blend Mocha Italia. Design fea­tures a new roundel stamp, and wall art to cel­e­brate the brand’s sig­na­ture blend, roast­ed in Lon­don since 1971.

Cof­fee con­nois­seurs are increas­ing­ly look­ing to move beyond their reg­u­lar drink and try some­thing dif­fer­ent. As the orig­i­nal cof­fee arti­sans in Lon­don, Cos­ta want to pro­vide a wel­com­ing envi­ron­ment for peo­ple look­ing to try some­thing different.

Cre­ative Direc­tor Grant Willis said about the cam­paign mate­r­i­al, Even for sea­soned cof­fee drinkers, choos­ing an ori­gin cof­fee can be daunt­ing. Our con­cept links ori­gin and taste to help peo­ple choose. Beau­ti­ful pho­tog­ra­phy brings alive the sub­tle notes and we gave each a dis­tinc­tive taste pro­file and colour: Rich & Intense Suma­tran, Round & Bal­anced Colom­bian and Sweet & Smooth Kenyan. The look and feel of every­thing that we’ve done in this store is recog­nis­ably Cos­ta, bring­ing great new cof­fee expe­ri­ences to everyone.”
